Caring for Patients – A Family Tradition

Dr. Lewis was inspired by his great grandfather, a Johns Hopkins trained physician who made his rounds in a horse and buggy! Our own Dr. Lewis began his medical training at the renowned St. Louis University School of Medicine. While at St. Louis University, Dr. Lewis participated in a clinic providing free care to patients in need. This began a tradition of providing free care to patients in need, a tradition long practiced at Eye Health through our free cataract surgery program and embraced by Dr. Lewis.

Excellent Training and Education

Dr. Lewis completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Indiana University, where he was involved in numerous eye health research efforts. These efforts led to a practice focused on cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery and on diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Lewis’s residency allowed him to develop skill and experience in Blepharoplasty, the repair of droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes and related problems associated with aging. He has also developed excellent cataract surgery skills and he is also Eye Health’s glaucoma specialist.

With regard to his cataract patients, Dr. Lewis performs the SmartLens® procedure in an effort to free his cataract patients from their dependence on eyeglasses. He uses a variety of intraocular lenses including the ReZoom multifocal lens, the Restor multifocal lens and the Crystalens accommodating lens.

Concerning his glaucoma patients, Dr. Lewis uses various state-of-the-art lasers to treat the disease including the Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty procedure known as SLT, Endoscopic Cyclophotocoagulation known as ECP, and the Peripheral Iridectomy procedure.

The depth of Dr. Lewis’ training, combined with extensive experience communicating with patients, allows Dr. Lewis to clearly explain complicated problems to his patients in terms that are easy to understand.
