Blepharitis
What is
Blepharitis? Blepharitis is a common inflammation of the eyelids that is
often neglected. Blepharitis may occur without symptoms. Usually, complaints
include general irritation of the lid margins, burning, itching, intermittent
blurred vision and a discharge in the eyes upon waking in the morning. Also,
Blepharitis tends to make one prone to developing sties.
How is
Blepharitis Treated? In order to treat Blepharitis, the eyelashes must
be kept clean by means of warm compresses and baby shampoo lid scrubs. With the
baby shampoo, make suds on a washcloth, close your eyes, and scrub the outside
of the eyes with the baby shampoo. Try not to get the soap in your eyes as you
scrub the outside to help remove a bacteria and debris that may accumulate on
the lid margins.
This treatment should be repeated two times daily for
two weeks, and the reduced to once daily for continued control of this
condition.
For more external cases, drops or ointment may be prescribed
to control symptoms. |
