Board Certified Ophthalmologist
Fellowship Trained
Retina Surgeon
Dr. Cole's
Farming Days Dr. James Cole practiced in Iowa before making Southwest
Florida his home. He comes from a farming family and during his college days
obtained a degree in agriculture. He raised crops in Illinois before preparing
for medical school.
Excellent
Training and Education Dr. Cole received his medical degree from the
prestigious Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine. Thereafter, Dr. Cole completed a two years surgical retina
fellowship at Baylor University. He went on to complete his ophthalmology
residency at
Boston University School of
Medicine.
Today, Dr. Cole
performs both retinal procedures and cataract
surgery. He treats patients with eye problems that are a result of
diabetes such as diabetic
retinopathy. He also provides care for patients with
macular degeneration. With regard to his cataract
patients, Dr. Cole performs the SmartLens procedure in an effort to free his
cataract patients from their dependence on eyeglasses. He uses a variety of
intraocular lenses including the
ReZoom multifocal lens, the
ReStor multifocal lens and the
Crystalens accommodating lens.
Eye Surgery
for the Needy While in practice in Iowa, Dr. Cole made regular visits to
the Winnebago Indian Reservation in order to provide retinal services to needy
Native Americans. This experience contributed to his philosophy that no patient
should be denied the care they need because of inability to pay. Accordingly,
Dr. Cole participates in Eye Health's free cataract surgery program for
individuals unable to afford needed eye surgery.
Pleasant &
Friendly Because Dr. Cole's training and clinical interests are in
cataracts and disorders of the retina, the focus of his practice is on older
adults. His patients enjoy his relaxed midwestern manner. When he's not caring
for his patients, Dr. Cole spends his time trying to keep up with his two sons,
gardening, cooking, and flying. |
